And Then There Where None by William Morrow

And Then There Were None is one of those books that has been talked about for years. Described as a murder mystery, this novel really holds to the mystery description. Nine strangers are invited to a hotel opening on an island off the coast of Devon. Once on the island they are all ushered into the home by a butler and given rooms. The hotel is modern and decorated softly around the 9 soldier poem which is posted in each bedroom. Everything is set and ready. The cook is ready to serve lunch. The owner of the hotel has hired an assistant, who by the way is conveniently also one of the nine people invited out to the hotel. But, where is the owner? Who is the owner for that matter?

I know a lot of people love this book but I honestly thought it was a copy cay of Clue, the movie. There were not many differences between the two of them. But, if you actually do the research the very first copy of this book was published in 1980. It was an Italian author who first thought up the idea. Then I guess Hollywood wanted to make their own version and the movie clue came out in 1985. I bet you didn’t think you were going to get history lesson today!

So if you go into the book knowing that it was actually written before Clue came out, the book is well written and creepy in its own right. Imagine getting an invite to visit a hotel free of charge by an acquaintance that you cannot quite place. You arrive by boat to a small island with a modern home which has been concerted to a hotel. You are treated by a butter. But, where is the host? You take in the atmosphere and enjoy dinner that the butlers wife has prepared for you. And then your worst nightmare unfolds.

I would give this book a 5/5 stars because it was unique for it’s time and still is. I might even go as far as to say I might read this book again. I did enjoy reading this book and I would recommend it to my fellow book addicts.
