The Tattooist Of Auschwitz is based on a true story of to Jews who survived their stay at Auschwitz and in the middle of trying to keep their heads low, Lale saw Gita and from that moment he would go the extra mile to insure she was safe. It was truly heart warming in the middle of such a tragic event. All that Lale did, not only for Gita but, for those around him. The daring risks he took to care for her is absolutely amazing. The length that he would go, the pain they would both endear is truly amazing. This will forever be a reminder of all the pain Hitler caused and how true love can concur anything.
This book really opens your eyes to the life of a Jew during the nazi era. Very view books can truly show you what life was like and this is one of them. These poor people were lied to, treated like cattle, forced to work until they dropped and were likely shot to death if they did fall from exhaustion. The lack of food, the clothing, water, beds. All of it! I cannot even begin to imagine having to share a small bed with 3 or even 4 other fully grow. Adults. The author really captured Lale’s personality, emotions, just everything about his and his wife. Honestly we need more books like this. They teach us something. Sometimes they teach us many lessons.
It is amazing that artifacts that were referenced in this book still belong to the family. Which the book will tell you about. This book just punches you in the feelings! I mean, talk about a tome to find love! They say you will find love when you least expect it. I don’t think they meant in a conversation camp!
“Like the Nobel Prize-winning author Elie Wiesel’s Night, Morris’ work takes us inside the day-to-day workings of the most notorious German death camp. Over the course of three years, Morris interviewed Lale, teasing out his memories and weaving them into her heart-rending narrative of a Jew whose unlikely forced occupation as a tattooist put him in a position to act with kindness and humanity in a place where both were nearly extinct.” (BookPage)
“The Tattooist of Auschwitz is the story of hope and survival against incredible odds and the power of love.” (Popsugar)
“The Tattooist of Auschwitz is an extraordinary document.. I find it hard to imagine anyone who would not be drawn in, confronted and moved. I would recommend it unreservedly to anyone, whether they’d read a hundred Holocaust stories or none.” (Graeme Simsion, internationally-bestselling author of The Rosie Project)
“What an extraordinary and important book this is. We need as many memories of the Holocaust as we can retain, and this is a moving and ultimately uplifting story of love, loyalties and friendship amidst the horrors of war.” (International bestseller Jill Mansell)
