The Beast of Bodmin by Mark Edmondson

The Beast Of Bodmin starts out with Debbie and her boyfriend, Steve, driving down a beautiful country side road in Bodmin Moor. Dusk is beginning to creep in and the couple decides that it would be romantic to camp just off the road out of site of the few vehicles that might pass by. Everything is going well. The couple sets up camp and falls asleep pretty quickly. Suddenly Debbie is awoken by Steve who is by the tent flap playing with his phone. He tells her that he hears something and for her to stay put while investigating. So less than 20 pages in and the book already peaks my interest. So far Mark Edmondson’s writing style is exactly what I like and I can only hope it stays this way throughout the entire book.

Beast Of Bodmin

Jo Green solved a serial murder where a chess player with OCD kills 4 women from a local pub. She is promoted to trainee detective constable 6 months later. Her long time family friend, Mr. Taylor thinks a mythical big cat is lurking in trees near his farm. Is he on the right path to discovering what killed the campers? After a 3rd death, the case kicks off into a page turning emotional roller coaster where TDC Green has even more reason to find the killer whether its a big folklore cat or another serial killer.

I am on page 100 no spoilers! But, I was definitely losing my mind at this point in the book. At first they make you think one person is going to be the victim and then the next, it’s someone completely different! I am having to force myself to put this book down so I can go out to dinner with my friend. I promise, I’ll be talking her ear off about this book. I honestly love what Mark Edmondson has done with the book. It’s got everything that I love in it! There’s murder, Mystery, mythology, LGBT positive view-point! I know that he did not write this book specifically for me but I feel like he did because everything about the book is something that I love. I am a gore and mythology loving lesbian. This book truly tells what it is like to discover your sexuality while not making it a major point of the book which is cool. Because, let’s be honest there are more things to a gay person than just them coming out of the closet. For example Jo, she has already at this point the book arrested a serial killer and she’s on her way to finding another killer.

I just closed the book. My head is still spinning. This was so fantastic and has a lot of twists and turns. This will definitely be a book that I reread. I really enjoy crime novels about serial killers and I did not see that ending coming! Which just added to the suspense! One minute we are looking in one direction and then with the turn of a page new evidence points to even more interesting suspects. I hope to see more looks from Mark Edmondson!
